Danger on the Snow.

Just in time for the learnings I'm in the midst of, comes an article in the Boulder Daily Camera by local running writer Michael Sandrock:

Icy trails make for the winter of our discontent

Hips thrown out, faces bloodied, ankles broken, local runners are taking a hit on these rough trails this winter.  Closest to home for me is a runner who been hurt trying to build up miles for the Canyonlands Half Marathon at Moab, in March--my present project.

Stories of injuries are prelude to a list of suggestions for running in the snow and ice, including slowing down, returning to the treadmill, taking shorter strides.

The story is announcing the upcoming cross-country race at Harlow Platt's Park in south Boulder. After citing another half-dozen or so suggestions for snow running, Mike says,
Race director Henry Guzman said participants can use a gripping device such as Yaktrax or even put in their own screws for better traction.
Bingo.

If you want to spend more than the three bucks my machine screws cost me at Nederland Ace Hardware, you sure can.
