No Moab for me this time.

March 20, 2010 from my kitchen window.
Rich Duran, a captain with the Colorado State Patrol, said drivers encountered icy, snowpacked conditions after two to six inches of snow fell on the roads. Traffic was backed up on I-70 between Vail and Avon after at least two trucks jackknifed at Dowd Junction, he said. He reported four or five other accidents in the Vail Valley but said none lead to serious injuries.

We could see this one coming.

At least, neighbor Tim could.
We are watching the development of the next storm for Thursday night and all day Friday.
This seems stronger than the one we just had, and could be in the 5" to 10" range for Nederland.

Where's this one coming from Tim? SW again, out of four corners?
I'm scheduled for a half-marathon at Moab Saturday morning, traveling Friday.

The wave is coming in from the North but as usual, it involves Low pressure to our south and a high to our North.
Driving to Moab on Friday might be really ugly - it looks like heavy snow (foot) on western slopes Friday morning and in our area, all day Friday.

This, on top of the rock slide that closed Glenwood Canyon two weeks ago, now open to two lanes of traffic.

Heeding the advice of a good neighbor who also happens to be a true expert in such things, I canceled motel and travel plans.
