A little dose of reality.

As I use this week to prepare for the Backroads Half and go merrily along my way, I finally got around to registering.

"Why so late?" Coach asks.

It's a pattern I seem to have fallen into, and have done it with every event. Perhaps there's some memory there of my thoughts of entering other events in the past and having other things come up that interfere--scheduling, injuries, family stuff. The no-refund policy has its effect.

But 65 bucks?

Whew! That one took me by surprise.

Heck, I figured it at another 25 or 30 bucks, easily worth it.

So I'll pay all that money to go run on the roads I run on any time I want to? Just how much party am I willing to pay for?

Gulp. So go ahead and register, having made such a big deal for so many weeks now preparing for this thing.

But I guess I'll have to start listening to other things Coach says about picking my events with a bit of discretion. Maybe when my fitness has really developed to the point I can make a statement to myself.

Maybe.
