Wild West Relay.

This is the run just completed by Jim Gery, in Planning & Development Services, and his wife Amy, as part of a team of 12 people.

Jim and Amy have been training for this since May, on top of a base they've developed over several years of general running. The full story of the event was featured this week in the Denver Post, and it's worth taking a look at.

Each person in their team ran 17 miles in three different runs across 24 hours, and listening to Jim talk about it I got the distinct impression that the experience changed his views toward the world and his views of himself. For someone who has never thought he could complete a half-marathon, this was a daunting challenge. That he could complete the training relatively injury-free--despite a few concerns about a funny knee a few weeks ago--and go on to successfully cover these distances seems to have given him a new perspective on what's possible when we set a goal for ourselves. Ask him sometime about running at 4:30 in the morning on two hours of sleep, and watch his eyes sparkle.

Check back at Run Boulder. We'll be posting a picture or two from the Relay, as they become available.

Congratulations, Jim and Amy! And thanks for the inspiration.
